The Boomtown Rats have announced their reunion for the first time in 26 years with the intentions of playing at the Isle of Wight Festival but not before they embark on an Australian tour.
Well Bob Geldof, I like Mondays this week, now the band is set to play in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth in May.
Lead man Geldof said of the reunion: "Playing again with the Rats and doing those great songs again will be exciting afresh. We were an amazing band, and I just feel it's the right time to re-Rat, to go back to Boomtown for a visit."
The Boomtown Rats join a long list of artists of yore that have been super keen to tour Australia lately, such as Black Sabbath, Journey with Deep Purple, Neil Young and Crazy Horse, Guns 'N' Roses, basically everyone on the Bluesfest lineup, and more.
This influx has not been seen in previous years but whatever the impetus it is bringing some of the best international music of last century to our shores.
Pre-sales start this afternoon, and general public tickets are on sale from Thursday 7 March. Go to the Rats' website for more ticketing info. Bring on the Irish pub rock!
